Crytek makes some damn impressive game engines

The one serious thing that we have learned about Crytek is that the developer makes some damn impressive game engines. Crytek’s games such as Far Cry and Crysis are really gorgeous to look at. The latest version of the CryEngine is also capable of some really impressive works of art. Now, though, it sounds like console gamers are set to experience the latest version of the CryEngine.

Recently in an interview, Mark Atkinson, Crytek’s director of technology, said to Edge Magazine that how the developer was able to make the engine work with both the PlayStation 3 and also the Xbox 360. He said that it has been tricky, but the team got a strong PS3 engine with all the major systems running on SPUs. With middleware, what gamers want is for someone else to do all that so the developer can just concentrate on making games.

He also added, “We have parity between the platforms now: both run at the same speed…. if the game’s shader-heavy it runs a bit faster on 360; if it’s compute-heavy with physics and particles, then the SPUs take over and it’s a bit quicker on PS3.”

Play on local trusted network only

One vulnerability that users should be aware of. I think you all remember the vulnerabilities that hit Crysis. Recently it had experienced a “keychange”, packet information disclosure vulnerability. This vulnerability of the Crysis caused much chaos at the time of its occurrence and users are urged to not forget it.

The basic problem with the Crysis vulnerability is that it can be exploited by malicious individuals for the purpose of disclosing particular sensitive and also confidential information. In Crysis the client/server sends a disconnect packet. This packet of disconnect contains many important and vital information such as IP addresses, client statuses as well as the player’s nicks. All these occur when a specific key exchange packet is being received.

Impact of this disconnect packet information disclosure of Crysis is the exposure of sensitive information and also exposure of particular system information.

Few of the file components of Crysis are vcredist_x86.exe, VistaEssentialsApp.exe, crysisdedicatedserver.exe, fxc.exe and Crysis_code.exe. Attackers make use of this and then they are able to reveal information without any authorization at all. Solution to this is to play multi player games on networks which they trust or alternatively to play on their local trusted networks only.

Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crytek recently responded to questions about whether foreign ownership has been in the best interests of the studio, Midlands-based.

He says to the media that if someone has that concern then they should ask the people that are actually there.

He also added further that they have provided the team at Crytek UK a structure and a future that positively shows improvement. He says that they are working with Free Radical on things that they always dreamed to do.

He further said, “We are providing the team a road map and the chance to grow, which is why we were picked as a partner and not anyone else.”

The studio of Nottingham-based was in fact bought out by the German developer in 2008 after it went into administration.

After releasing Haze (PS3 exclusive) Crytek was working on TimeSplitters 4 and a new Star Wars Battlefront game that has since changed hands with Rebellion.

Game from the future

Crysis always feels like a game from the future. It is in ground reality a top-spec gaming rig that no other game can compete, on any system of course. As much as visuals are not the be all and end all of video games, in the case of this gaming, they are very hard to ignore. If gamers don’t have the right hardware then better forget about it. But yes, if the PC needs a power plant to keep it going, then it is the right time to play the most beautiful game on earth.

From the developer Crytek, the Crysis sees gamers step into the shoes of a special soldier in the year 2020. The Delta Squad is also seen as special enough in order to wear a new high tech nano suit that will allow the gamers to become a super hero of sorts.

It depends on the situation that the gamers can gain extra armour, more strength, increased speed or a Predator-like cloak. All the features are very much futuristic and the perfect tool to give gamers the upper hand on the Koreans who are holding some archaeologists hostage on the beautiful island gamers have been air-dropped on to investigate.
