Sandbox2 Editor Changelog
After the Crysis Sandbox2 Editor release, the development team has always updated the powerful tool quite a bit for the modding community. Down below is the changelog of what’s new:
The Improved Height-Field Editor:
- It is a complete overhaul of User Interface
- The new options that are added is to show and hide water and map objects
- The new tools added to quickly switch to terrain texture layers.
- The modification of Height-Field this time translates to editor terrain in real-time
- Now there is an added ability to erase current height map
- Now there is also added new tool for large preview of height field.
CryENGINE 3
Recently there was held Game Developers Conference 2009. There were many new technologies showcased at the Game Developers Conference 2009. Out of many, one of the standouts was Crytek’s CryENGINE 3.
After many years of focusing on the Windows PC platform for this game with the original CryENGINE and Far Cry, even with the Crysis and Crysis Warhead on CryENGINE 2, Crytek is making this new engine for multiplatform use.
CEO Cevat Yerli talked to the media regarding the background information on what CryENGINE 3 is.
Yerli said that they were fortunate enough to be able to see the engine running live at the show, and he also mentioned that they can say it looks extremely impressive on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles.
The demo stages at the conference included a futuristic cityscape, the ‘First Light’ area from Crysis, a forested area, and this appeared to be a medieval stronghold under assault.
He also made it clear there that these areas were strictly for demo purposes, and they were not indicators of titles to come.
Crysis Warhead post-mortem
In the year 2007 when Crytek finally shipped it was about a year behind schedule and demanded a high-end machine. A year later when Crysis Warhead shipped, it delivered a follow-up on schedule. In fact it actually ran far better on existing hardware than it’s the previous one.
How did the company was able to do that. The producer of the game, Bernd Diemer gave a presentation at GDC recently and he explained there that the hard lessons that Crytek learned with the making of Crysis and even he said about how developers can use that info to produce better games.
Crysis Warhead was a challenging product for them in many ways. Few of them were like a newly formed studio, Crytek Budapest, built the single-player campaign. Also having a new team establish itself and build a game at the same time is always a challenging task. At the same time the multiplayer was built by Crytek Frankfurt that meant that the company had to timeshare several critical programmers and several developers and then very carefully integrate the product.
Diemer also mentioned that to have one team on single-player and another on multiplayer has created a healthy competition between the two studios, as they raced to completion.
CryENGINE 3 is about to release
The developer of Far Cry and Crysis Warhead and other download games, Crytek, announced recently that they will be presenting their 3rd generation engine at the upcoming Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.
CryENGINE 3 is the 1st engine for Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC, which is “truly Next-Gen-Ready”. The engine includes scalable computation and graphics for all the major systems. They are the first development platform to include this feature in free games as well as game rentals. A 3rd generation sandbox level editor is also included in it that allows the developers to easily test what they have created. More to this, the engine will also come with new features designed specifically for consoles, massively multiplayer online games (MMOGs), and the next generation game development which would require to use more brains in game.
CEO and President of Crytek, Cevat Yerli, told to the media in an interview that the new engine will help to deliver next generation titles while at the same time still taking advantage of financial resources.
Crytek updates Crysis Wars
Crytek has just very recently released an update for the Crysis Wars. Crysis Wars is the multiplayer portion of its graphics-intensive PC first person shooter Crysis Warhead. This update which is a cumulative manual update, version 1.4, brings with it a handful of few general fixes that includes one related to a memory leak problem and also along with it several other improvements for the game like the enhanced DirectX 9 support and a couple of balance adjustments.

To keep the focus of the community on just one modding area based upon the same engine version, it was decided to make the AI in Crysis Wars available again and concentrate on supporting this game with editor and SDK.
With most of the assets together from Warhead that are included in Patch 1.4 it is confident that the community will benefit the most out of it by just keeping a singleplayer and a multiplayer modding and level creation to one game.

CryEngine 3 unveiled
CryEngine 3 has been unveiled by Crytek. This is an “all-in-one game development solution” for Xbox 360, PS3 and MMOs.
This new CryEngine that was used to power the Crysis and Crysis Warhead on PC is really Next-Gen-Ready. This is claimed by the German studio, with scalable computation and graphics for all the major upcoming platforms.
The report in the media and also the recent acquisition of troubled TimeSplitters dev Free Radical, has magnified to the never-dieing rumour of Crysis on consoles. Let us keep the hope that it happens.
In fact CryEngine 3 is a revolutionary change from the previous PC-only engines.
